Some people might be supprised, but there are people who think there are pros, as well as people who think there are cons. But what are the pros and cons?
The Pros

Some people claim that torture is good because:
1. You can save many lives. For example, in the T.T.S (Ticking Time bomb Scenario) the authority don't know where the bomb is, and its bound to go off, and if it does hundreds will die. The police have a suspect, and its allright to torture him because...
3. Arguments that state that the actvitys in areas such as Guantanamo bay is illegal, are wrong since the Geneva conventions only apply to a countrys own land and to prisoners of war (3).

- Theres a time pressure, the authorities don't have time to get an answer by normal interrogation (3).
- Here, the needs/benifits of more outweigh the needs/benifits of one.
- Theres evidence that the suspect may indeed be the planter of the bomb, so he faces punishment anyway(3).

The Cons

However, there are just as many, if not more arguments against torture. These include:
1. The T.T.S example is...
3. Society often forgets, but criminals are just as human as they are, and if torture is accepted, the line between right and wrong will become more blurred then it already is in todays society(3).
4. Torture only supoorts terrorist propagnda, since they can claim that they have higher moral standars then the torturers.
5. Lastly, yes the geneva conventions only apply to prisoners of war and civilians, but The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court classes torture as a 'crime against humanity' and suspect can be tried at the Hague(3).
1. The T.T.S example is...
- Purely hypothetical for one(3)
- Often used to score moreal and policy points(3)

Which outweights the other?
It is difficult to form an unbias opinion on this topic, because both the pros and cons counter each other, they equal each other out. However, if you feel that it is wrong there are several groups which you can join and support.
